About This Destination

Gage County is where America’s homestead story begins. In the 19th Century, America was on the move and many pioneers traveled through this area. Over 300,000 persons traveled the Oregon Trail which enters Nebraska near Lanham. The Homestead Act of 1862 lead the way for FREE land. One of the first homestead claims is preserved at Homestead National Monument of America just 4 miles west of Beatrice.

Beatrice, county seat, is located just 40 minutes south of Lincoln. Gage County offers regionally and nationally recognized attractions, several lodging options, fine dining, antique shops, and many unique retail shops.

Whether you’re traveling on vacation, business, a convention, or with a group, we know you will enjoy your stay. Gage County Tourism can arrange day tours with advance notice.
