About This Destination

Thousands of years ago, something drew ancient bison here. How did hundreds of Bison antiquus come to rest in such a small area? Archeological teams and curious visitors have studied the site since its discovery in 1954. Perhaps these ancient bison were hunted by Paleo-Indians or maybe they died of natural event. Many unanswered questions are debated at the bone bed. Researchers carefully excavate and record all evidence in the hopes of piecing together the answers. Visit Hudson-Meng to see an archaeological excavation and learn about ongoing research. Interpretive exhibits and seasonally available guided tours are offered to help you further develop your own theories.
