About This Destination

Beginning on the Kearney Canal as it flows past Yanney Heritage Park and transitioning into the N. channel of the Platte River, the Kearney Water Trail is the newest outdoor recreational amenity in the area. The addition of public access points for boats and paddleboards at the NE corner of Yanney Park and along Central Avenue behind Midway Auto make entry and exit easy during the typical season of April to October. Open to the public, the trip is an easy float of 2.3 miles or around an hour on the water. The scenery changes from flatlands and open views of Yanney Park and the city to a tree lined creek setting as it meanders along much of the same route as the Hike and Bike Trail. A small increase in the speed of the water can provide some excitement for boaters as the current passes underneath the bridges at 2nd Avenue before reaching the end a few minutes later just before Central Avenue.
