About This Destination

22 miles of rail banked railroad corridor paralleling the scenic Missouri River. The surface is crushed limestone, but because of the trail's unique geography don't be surprised to find some areas more challenging than others.
Intricate, original carvings adorn the face of the limestone bluffs south of Peru as you head to Brownville. The area has been designated as the Roland Sherman Memorial Area in memory of the carvings' artist. Experience a kaleidoscope of colors from the greens and yellows of spring to the rich red, orange, and gold of fall. As you reconnect with nature, catch a glimpse of the many species of birds and wildlife that call Steamboat Trace home. Various spots along the trail provide scenic overlooks of the Missouri River and great photo opportunities.'
Rules of the Trail - hours of operation are daylight hours year round. Trail is closed during firearm deer season
