Fort Hartsuff, near Elyria, was as an infantry outpost on the Nebraska prairie from 1874 to 1881. Built during the Plains Indian Wars, the fort became a social and economic center for settlers in the region. Visitors can stroll the gravel path around the parade ground, follow the white picket fence that surrounds the fort, and explore original and reconstructed buildings.
