NEBRASKA TOURISM COMMISSION MEDIA HOSTING POLICY
Decisions regarding hosting are handled on an individual basis involving numerous factors such as story angle, media outlet, length of stay, season, number of areas visiting in the state and available budget. Nebraska Tourism Commission reserves the right to refuse any request for any reason.
Provide as much detail as possible; while it is not always possible to have a guaranteed placement, confirmed story assignments will be prioritized for hosting assistance and strengthen our ability to reach out to appropriate partners. Please review the following guidelines before submitting a request:
- Four-Week Notice: The state of Nebraska requires media hosting requests to be made four weeks or longer in advance for full consideration. Any requests received with less than a four-week notice may be declined due to higher costs and lack of planning time associated with last-minute travel requests.
- State Representation: Requests made at the state level must include at least two to three destinations/regions within Nebraska to be considered for media hosting assistance. If your story angle is focused on only one city, attraction or hotel, it is suggested your request is routed to the local tourism board serving that area.
- Transportation: Airfare assistance may be available on a case-by-case basis, provided the request is made at least four weeks in advance. You will be responsible for any charges associated with changes to your flight once it has been booked or asked to reimburse the state of Nebraska for the airfare cost should you cancel your flight for any reason. Ground transportation support may be considered on rare occasions, based on length of stay and areas visiting within the state.
- Accommodations: Complimentary assistance for accommodations include room rate and tax. Incidentals, such as phone charges or room service, are not covered. A credit card will be required upon check-in at all hotels. Please note that arrangements are subject to hotel availability and blackout periods may apply (e.g. major holidays).
- Meals: Complimentary meals may be arranged based on factors such as story angle and publication; however, a gratuity of 18-20 percent to the server or guide is customary.
- Travel Companions: While companions are welcome, the state cannot provide complimentary media assistance for travel companions. Please indicate if you will be traveling with someone during your visit so proper arrangements can be made.
