Since 1955, the Willa Cather Foundation has promoted Willa Cather's legacy through education, preservation, and the arts. It also preserves and maintains historic sites, landscapes, and artifacts related to the author's family and writings. Opened in 2017, the National Willa Cather Center has a bookstore, exhibit, archives, and gallery. The Foundation also maintains the Red Cloud Opera House and Willa Cather Memorial Prairie—612 acres on the Nebraska-Kansas border—that preserves some of the original and untilled land of Cather’s childhood that inspired her writing. Daily guided tours of historic sites and guided scenic Town and Country tours.
