Since 1955, the Willa Cather Foundation has promoted Willa Cather's legacy through education, preservation & the arts. It also preserves and maintains historic sites, landscapes & artifacts related to the author's family and writings. Opened in 2017, the National Willa Cather Center has a bookstore, exhibit, archives & gallery. The Foundation also maintains the Red Cloud Opera House and Willa Cather Memorial Prairie—612 acres on the Nebraska-Kansas border—that preserves some of the original and untilled land of Cather’s childhood that inspired her writing. Daily guided tours (Tues-Sat) of historic sites & scenic Town, Country, and Prairie Tours.
