This historic military outpost was one of the first west of the Missouri River and played an important role in the fur trade, river traffic and relations with Native tribes. Seasonal living history events bring the site’s frontier past to life.

Named after the inventor of the landing craft used in World War II, this memorial features a steel replica Higgins boat and sculptures honoring service members from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Visitors can reflect on the role these vessels played in Allied victory.
