FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LINCOLN, Neb. (January 27, 2017)— The Nebraska Tourism Commission is pleased to announce that it will once again host the Beekman Boys, this time for the 2017 Nebraska Agri/Eco-Tourism Workshop.
The Fabulous Beekman Boys was a reality television show on the Cooking Channel chronicling the lives of Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge, who gave up their New York City lives to save a farm outside the city and make it profitable. The couple purchased the historic Beekman 1802 Farm in 2007. At the time they had no idea it would launch one of the “fastest growing lifestyle brands in the country.”
The Beekman Boys will be at the event in Broken Bow, February 21-23. They will lead a lunch session called 10 things we learned from our goats and a breakout session with Tips for Building a Successful Agritourism Business.
Nebraska Tourism hosted the Beekman Boys back in 2015 for the Nebraska Tourism Conference. “We received so much great feedback after that presentation, we thought it would be fun to have them back in Nebraska and hear more of their story,” said Workshop coordinator and Nebraska Tourism agritourism consultant, Karen Kollars. The 2017 Agri/Eco-Tourism Workshop is themed “Brewing up Business” and will include a panel discussion and tour at Kinkaider Brewing Company. This annual Workshop gives landowners and businesses a chance to learn how to use theirland, gifts and ideas to develop or advance an attraction and increase their operating income.
The keynote speaker for the Workshop will be Dean Jacobs. Since 2001 Jacobs, aNebraskanative, has traversed across the globe exploring over 56 countries on a low budget adventure, propelled by a desire to understand the world we share. The adventure traveler’s keynote is titled, 7 Wonders 7 Lessons and will encourage those in attendance to take a journey to challenge your perception of the world. Jacobs prompts audiences to get to the heart of what’s really important to them -- to find their own “why.” Armed with insights from lessons learned after leaving a successful corporate career and following his dream, Jacobs challenges the norm and provides a roadmap to effect change, letting go of the familiar to discover what’s possible and moving past fears to reach new heights. Jacobs will also lead breakout sessions on culture and the mastermind concept.
