Cowboy Trail Master Plan public information sessions

LINCOLN, Neb. (December 2, 2015)— The Nebraska Tourism Commission and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission invite the public to attend one of six upcoming public information sessions discussing the master plan for the Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail. Staff from both commissions will make short presentations at the beginning of each session and then there will be time for public comment.

Nebraska Tourism Commission Eco Tourism Consultant, Alex Duryea, will present information on the economic impact of improving the trail system. “The Cowboy Trail is an important part of our trails inventory, further development of the trail will attract Nebraskans and adventure tourists alike,” said Duryea.

“This trail has the potential to become a state treasure and a major outdoor asset for not only the communities it moves between but for the state as well,” added Nebraska Tourism Director, Kathy McKillip. “Nebraska Tourism would like to encourage everyone to attend these meetings and provide your input. We look forward to working with all the partners involved to promote tourism recreation for the outdoor enthusiasts.”

To date, 195 miles of the trail have been completed between Valentine and Norfolk. The Cowboy Trail will be the longest rails to trails conversion in the nation after all 321 miles are converted. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has operated and maintained the trail since 1994.
