FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LINCOLN, Neb. (March 24, 2016) — The Nebraska Tourism Commission invites teams of runners and ambitious individuals to participate in the first ever Cowboy Ultra, a two day race that will guide runners (solo and relay teams) across the 187 completed miles of the Cowboy Trail from Valentine to Norfolk.
"What makes this event so fun is the venue. Not many people running the Ultra have ran on the Cowboy Trail, let alone the whole thing," said Nebraska Tourism Commission Eco-Tourism Consultant, Alex Duryea. "It's going to be a unique event."
The Cowboy Ultra will take place on Saturday, June 11. The event, organized by Angry Cow Adventures, is limited to 75 people. Registration is $65 per person and closes May 25, or as soon as the limit of 75 registrations is fulfilled. This run replaces the Border to Border Challenge and will be exclusively all on the Cowboy Trail.
Kathy McKillip, Executive Director of the Nebraska Tourism Commission, said, "Outdoor adventure and the trails are an important part of our industry. Events that involve our state's trail system get people outdoors exploring Nebraska from another view point. This kind of event has been a vision of ours for a long time. We hope adventurists and endurance runners use this opportunity to run on one of Nebraska's treasures, and that the beauty of the trail will leave participants with lasting memories."
The Cowboy Trail is the longest former stretch of railroad to be converted into a trail in the United States. The trail allows for biking, horseback riding, and hiking and passes through many small towns. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has operated and maintained the trail since 1994 when it was gifted to them by the Nebraska Legislature. A portion of the proceeds from the Cowboy Ultra will support improvements in Nebraska's state parks and recreation areas.
