Harvest Events in Nebraska
Harvest festivals are the traditional way to celebrate the end of summer and the transition to a new season. It’s a time to enjoy the prosperous crop and an exposition for the year’s produce. Many communities statewide celebrate the harvest with their own autumn festivals. Husker Harvest Days, Sept. 10-12, Grand Island The traditional agriculture show is taken to a whole new level in Grand Island. Husker Harvest Days is the world’s largest totally irrigated working farm show. The show entertains with more than 80 acres of exhibits, field demonstrations, seminars, crafts, artwork and more. River City Rodeo, Sept. 26-29, Omaha The second largest rodeo in the world hosts the Justin Boots Championship Rodeo, stock show and the Douglas County Fair. Stage shows, parade and exhibits. The Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben have four days of fun that happens to be the Official Omaha Community Celebration. 45th Annual Applejack Festival, Sept. 20-22, Nebraska City Ranked one of the 2006 Top 10 Fall Festivals in North America by the Society of American Travel Writers, Nebraska City’s 45-year-old apple harvest celebration is fun for the whole family! Enjoy the parade, car show and arts and crafts fair. Stop by Kimmel Orchards or Arbor Day Farms to pick apples and feast on homemade apple pies and sweets. 9th Annual Missouri River Annual Expo, Sept. 21-22, Ponca Head up to Ponca State Park to learn about wildlife-related and outdoor recreation activities including wildlife viewing, fishing, hunting, archery, shooting sports, camping, off-highway vehicle recreation and boating recreation. Nebraska’s Junk Jaunt, Sept. 27-29, Various Communities Experience the scenery of 300 miles of Nebraska that also happens to be a yard sale of epic proportions in Spetember. The Scenic Byways across Nebraska host the Nebraska Junk Jaunt guiding shoppers to each small community which hosts their own central junk station. From huge farm expos and rodeos to traditional harvest festivals and even huge yard sales, Nebraska has the events that celebrate the transition from summer to autumn.
