It’s no secret that Nebraska is a football state. Just visit downtown Lincoln during a Husker home game and you’ll witness the famous “sea of red” moving toward Memorial Stadium. But it’s not always about the touchdowns—Nebraskans embrace all things sports-related. 
Summer, when football’s not in season, is the perfect time to explore the other sports that Nebraska has to offer. This month, we’re taking a peek at some upcoming sporting events that will keep any sports fan cheering until the next Husker home game. NCAA College World Series TD Ameritrade Park, Omaha, June 15–26 Eight of the nation’s top college teams head to Omaha in hopes of winning the national championship. During June 14’s Opening Celebration, fans can participate in player autograph sessions, team practices and opening ceremonies. General admission games are first-come, first-served, but at $80 for a pack of 10 GA tickets, CWS can be a value-packed group outing.
25th Annual Tour de Nebraska Starting and ending in Madison, June 20–25 The ultimate five-day cycling tour across Nebraska returns for its 25th year. Cyclists test their strength, stamina and spirit as they ride between 41 and 71 miles each day from Madison through the towns of Wakefield, Wausa, O’Neill and Neligh. According to organizers, “It’s not just a bicycle ride, it’s an adventure.” 2012 U.S. Olympic Swim Team Trials CenturyLink Center, Omaha, June 25–July 2 Sports fans who can’t afford a ticket overseas can still get a taste of Olympic fever at the 2012 U.S. Swim Team Trials in Omaha. Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Natalie Coughlin and Rebecca Soni and 1,500 Olympic hopefuls will be competing for spots on the U.S. Olympic Swim Team. USA Roller Sports Figure Skating Championships Pershing Center, Lincoln, July 22–August 5 Lincoln, home to the National Museum of Roller Skating, will roll into the national spotlight when the country’s best roller figure skaters come to town to compete to represent the U.S. at the 2012 World Roller Figure Skating Championships in New Zealand. Artistic roller skaters perform twirls, jumps and spins similar to ice skaters, but on wheels instead of blades. Find more upcoming sporting events at VisitNebraska.gov.
