LINCOLN, Neb. (July 24, 2018) – The summer season is coming to a close and the Nebraska Tourism Commission wants to make sure that you soak up every last bit of it.
“Being a landlocked state many are surprised that Nebraska has more miles of river than any other state in the U.S. along with a variety of lakes and water parks. While the temperature is still hot, you won’t want to miss out on visiting one of our many water destinations,” said John Ricks, Nebraska Tourism Commission executive director.
Take a swim, dip your toes in or float down the river in an unconventional way at one of the following destinations:
1. Platte River State Park and Louisville State Recreation Area
New in 2018, both parks have added fun water features to help you cool off. At Platte River State Park, the newly added, two-tiered spray park features waterslides, a waterfall, dump buckets, a fountain and more. Coming soon to Louisville State Recreation Area is a floating water playground, complete with challenging obstacles, a climbing wall, monkey bars and more for you to splash around in. 2. Lake McConaughy
Swim, boat, fish, jet ski, kayak and more at Nebraska’s largest reservoir. Take a break from the water and relax on more than 100 miles of beautiful white sand beaches. Find more information here.
3. Tank down the river with Glidden Canoe Rental
Adventure down the river in a kayak, canoe or a more unique form of flotation – a stock tank. 4. Calamus Reservoir State Recreation Area and Calamus River
Explore the outdoor playground of Calamus Reservoir with more than 5,000 acres for swimming, boating and fishing. Once you’ve spent enough time splashing around the Reservoir, head over to Calamus Outfitters for tubing, kayaking and tanking on the Calamus River. Find more information here.
5. Omaha Fun-Plex
Stay cool and head to Nebraska’s premier water park where you can kick it back in the lazy river, slide down the five stories tall Rockin Rapids or grab a drink at the swim-up bar. Find more information here.
