Magical Holiday Events Across Nebraska
Holiday cheer is in the air, and you want to get in on the fun in Nebraska. There are so many events to choose from around the state, so we picked one from each of Nebraska’s seven regions. From decked-out light displays to a chance to meet Santa, here are a few to add to your list this season. Check out our events calendar for a full list!
Southeast
A longtime favorite in the capital city, Zoo Lights in Lincoln is one of the region’s most spectacular light displays. Stroll through the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, festively decorated with tunnels, vines, trees and more covered with bright lights. Cozy up with hot cocoa and other holiday treats. Timed tickets must be purchased for admission.
Metro
The region’s largest indoor Christmas tree adorns The Durham Museum, the site of Omaha’s old Union Station. It’s just the beginning of the holiday fun. Check out holiday concert series, plus meet Santa Claus on select evenings in December. Check the calendar for event dates.
Northeast
One of Nebraska’s fine small-town holiday celebrations, SantaLand has brought holiday cheer to Creighton since 1995. There is a stunning display of lights in Bruce Park for visitors, who can also visit Santa’s Workshop and Mrs. Claus’ Gingerbread House, where the whole family will enjoy making holiday memories.
Sandhills - Lake Ericson Trail of Lights
Anyone who ventures to Ericson for the Trail of Lights the first weekend in December will be treated to a unique light experience. Hop on a 30-minute hayrack ride with warm drinks through wooded trails and Christmas scenes.
Northwest
Sidney is home to this festively fabulous annual event at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds Pavilion. Not only will you experience the holiday spirit through light displays and decorations, but you get to see a different theme each weekend of the festival. Crafts, scavenger hunts, photos with Santa and more are great reasons to visit.
Southwest - Christmas at the Cody’s
The famed scout and showman “Buffalo Bill” Cody made his home at North Platte, and you can get a taste of the Christmas tradition of days gone by at this event. The historic mansion and the surrounding grounds at Buffalo Bill State Historical Park light up each December, and horse-drawn rides, caroling and roasted chestnuts add to the Christmas ambience.
South Central - Holiday Light Festival at Yanney Park
Yanney Park in Kearney hosts this holiday extravaganza, which includes various themed night throughout the season. Grab a view of the dazzling display from the Gottschalk Tower and enjoy cookies, hot chocolate and community spirit.
